Don Baylor was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in March 2003, while he was New York Mets bench coach. Baylor was very upbeat while discussing his condition and treatment with his players and he had continued with his work that whole season while undergoing chemotherapy at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan. His interaction with his then players, displayed his positive attitude during his treatment. Hes reported to have told his players that he thought it was good time to get the treatment done and leave the cancer behind him and that he did not want to wait till the end of the season for treatment. He had requested his players not to ask him how he was feeling everyday. His attitude towards myeloma was optimistic and cheerful.
