Amanda Hilty Richmond | CureTalks

Amanda Hilty Richmond, 44, was born and raised in San Jose, CA, and now lives in Huntsville, Alabama, with her husband, two children, and a house full of pets. A Sonoma State and San Jose State graduate, Amanda worked in tech and lived an active, healthy life until cancer altered her path. In 2020, after her first routine mammogram, she was diagnosed with widespread Ductal Carcinoma In Situ (DCIS) and underwent a double mastectomy. With no lymph node involvement, she avoided chemo and radiation and had reconstructive surgery later that year. Just six months later, her father was diagnosed with both breast cancer and Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, prompting Amanda to undergo full-body scans for persistent back pain. In 2022, shortly after her 43rd birthday, Amanda was diagnosed with a 15.5 cm Chondrosarcoma in her femur. Choosing radical resection and allograft surgery, she endured a 5.5-hour operation and began a challenging recovery. Now, 2.5 years later, she walks with a limp but remains determined to one day run again. Amanda continues regular follow-ups and has participated in genetic and sarcoma research studies. She has shared her story nationally to help guide new treatments and was recently appointed to the Board of Advisors of the Chondrosarcoma Foundation. Through it all, Amanda remains joyful, resilient, and committed to supporting others navigating the challenges of cancer.
