Professor William Burhans is a senior cancer scientist at Roswell Park Cancer Institute. In 2013 Bill was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer with a BRCA2 mutation. Ironically, Bill's lab had been studying DNA damage responses requiring BRCA proteins and he has responded to a drug targeting BRCA and related mutations. Bill continues to perform research; he also writes & speaks about prostate cancer genetics, offers patient advocacy, and snow shoes in winter then kayaks in summer - both in Vermont.
